BLUMHOUSE UNVEILS THE MUMMY

The sand is shifting once again as Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have officially pulled back the shroud on their highly anticipated reimagining of The Mummy. Directed by Lee Cronin, the filmmaker behind the visceral Evil Dead Rise, this first teaser marks a sharp departure from the action-adventure tone of previous iterations, leaning instead into pure, atmospheric dread.

This contemporary take centers on a journalist whose young daughter vanishes into the desert, only to return eight years later under inexplicable and terrifying circumstances. The footage suggests a “puzzle box” mystery, blending the domestic vulnerability of a family drama with the grisly, investigative darkness of a noir thriller. Rather than the sweeping landscapes of the 1990s classics, Cronin appears to be delivering a claustrophobic nightmare rooted in ancient Egyptian lore and visceral body horror.

Early glimpses of the film showcase the director’s signature style, featuring unsettling practical effects and a sense of “deep, buried secrets.” Starring Jack Reynor and Laia Costa, the production is set to challenge modern expectations of the franchise when it arrives in theaters on April 17, 2026.
